Castlevania

For more than a decade, various filmmakers have been trying to bring the concepts presented in the Castlevania video game series to the screen in some way. Directors Paul W.S. Anderson, Sylvain White, and James Wan have all worked on a live action adaptation at different points, but they've never been able to get it off the ground.

It may be a while before we see the Castlevania characters in flesh and blood, but Frederator Studios and producer Adi Shankar have teamed up to bring an animated, "super-violent" mini-series adaptation of the games to Netflix's streaming service. This animated project is one we've been following for a couple years, and now it's ready to be seen.

Netflix has released a trailer for Castlevania that is embedded below. Not only does it give quick glimpses of popular Castlevania elements and show blood splashing across the screen, it also reveals when the mini-series will be making its debut online: Castlevania will be available for viewing on Netflix as of July 7th.

Scripted by bestselling author / comic book icon Warren Ellis, this series has the following synopsis:

Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself.

It has been said that the mini-series would be specifically based on the the game Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. Fans of the games only have to wait a little over a month before they can watch the show and find out how accurate that is.
