Filmmaker and Oscar-winner Paul Haggis (CRASH, MILLION DOLLAR BABY) may not be the most well-known person associated with the infamous Church of Scientology, but his 2009 departure and the reasons behind it are about to be.
A month ago, it was being reported that Haggis had collaborated with New Yorker staff writer Lawrence Wright (the Pulitzer Prize-winning author behind The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11) on an exposé about the Church, with Haggis square in the middle divulging damning information centered around his 30+ years as a member. That exposé, littered with Haggis’ and others’ personal experiences, as well as author Wright’s investigations, have now been published at The New Yorker in a piece called The Apostate: Paul Haggis vs. the Church of Scientology.
