The new trailer for THOR: THE DARK WORLD has landed, taking us back to the world created in 2011’s THOR with a much Earthier tone, but with a lot less Earth and a lot more Asgard (and the nine realms). Chris Hemsworth returns to the role for the third time (including last summer’s THE AVENGERS), along with returning castmembers Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane, Stellan Skarsgård as Dr. Selvig, Kat Dennings as Darcy, Ray Stevenson as Volstagg, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Rene Russo as Frigga, and Anthony Hopkins as Odin. Rounding out the cast is Christopher Eccleston as the film’s villain, Malakith, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Kurse and Chris O’Dowd as…someone.

Hammah!:

Here’s the synopsis:

When Jane Foster is targeted by the denizens of the dark world of Svartalfheim, Thor sets out on a quest to protect her at all costs.

All in all, this looks really cool, but doesn’t come close to the Comic Con sizzle reel that was shown. However, that doesn’t stop this from still looking badass, particularly due to having Game of Thrones alum, Alan Taylor, at the helm of the ship. While Kenneth Branagh did a fine job with the first film, it feels like Taylor has brought a bit more atmosphere and style to the proceedings, which is a welcome addition to the franchise.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD opens on November 8, 2013.
