Like peanut butter and jam, the
combination of Ray Harryhausen and Edgar Alan Poe just seems right, doesn’t it?

What I’m talking about is the
stop-motion animated short THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM, based on the Edgar
Alan Poe story and produced by legendary F/X artist and all around cool guy Ray
Harryhausen. Above you’ll see one of two teaser posters for the short, courtesy
of the dudes over at

Dread Central
, and this thing has cool written
all over it.

THE PIT AND
THE PENDULUM
was a sweet short story by Poe about a guy whose being
tortured during the Spanish Inquisition. The story follows a man while he waits
in his cell for death, and the somewhat surreal experiences he has. I’m not
going to pretend that I fully understand all the symbolism in the story, but I
dug the read anyways.

The short which was produced by
Harryhausen and directed by Marc Lougee is looking pretty trippy, and a great
teaser trailer can be seen

here
at the short’s official site. So check out the teaser, and if
you ever get a chance make sure to check out the original Poe work; you won’t
regret it.
