Platinum Dunes, Melton and Dunstan set up horror project at Paramount

While Platinum Dunes, the production company behind such films as the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, AMITYVILLE HORROR, HITCHER, and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remakes, gears up to go into production on the next FRIDAY THE 13TH movie for Paramount Pictures next spring (they were also behind the 2009 FRIDAY THE 13TH), they have already set up another project to work with Paramount on after F13.

Paramount is in negotiations to acquire an untitled pitch for a project that will be produced by Platinum Dunes and written by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, horror genre regulars who have written the FEAST trilogy, four SAW sequels, THE COLLECTOR, THE COLLECTION, THE NEIGHBOR, and PIRANHA 3DD. Last year Melton and Dunstan came this-close to making the HALLOWEEN sequel HALLOWEEN RETURNS, which Dunstan would have directed.

Attached to helm this new project is Michael Chaves, a director of shorts, television, and commercials who would be making his feature directorial debut on this film.

As for what this pitch is, all that has been revealed is that it's

a supernatural horror-thriller that takes place on a global scale.

Well, they have my attention. We'll keep you updated as the project continues to move forward. In the meantime, you can get a sample of Chaves's work by checking out the horror short THE MAIDEN below. If the neighborhood in the exterior shots looks familiar to you, it may be because it was the filming location for many a horror film of the past, including EVIL TOONS, THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS, lots of WITCHCRAFT movies, and SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE II.
