After watching the brutal and explosive midseason finale for THE WALKING DEAD, many fans are dying to know what Rick and his gang will be up to when the series returns next year. TV Guide talked to co-creator and showrunner Robert Kirkman, and he revealed some information on what to expect in the upcoming episodes for the series. Kirkman doesn't say anything too spoilery about the next episodes, but some of you may want to avoid the details below.

Robert Kirkman has told TV Guide that Carol (Melissa McBride) is definitely alive and will return before the end of the season. He also says the new episodes will involve the sanctuary that was mentioned in a radio message, and several characters' backgrounds will be explored (via flashback), including Danai Gurira's Michonne.

Glad to see Carol will be back, although I think must of us assumed she would return at some point. Now that the Governor and prison saga is finally over, it's going to be very interesting to see what happens next on the hit show.

The second half of the fourth season will begin airing on AMC on February 9th, 2014.
