Directed by brothers Brett and Drew Pierce, the horror movie The Wretched was a drive-in hit back in the early days of the pandemic. Now Deadline has broken the news that the Pierces are writing and directing another horror film. This one is called Room 428, and it’s being produced by genre regular Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone, Sinister, etc.)!

Room 428 is set up at Screen Gems, the studio Derrickson directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Deliver Us from Evil for. Details on this one are being kept under wraps. All we know about it is the title, the producers, and the fact that it’s described as being a “supernatural horror” story.

Derrickson is producing the film alongside C. Robert Cargill and Sherryl Clark through their company Crooked Highway. Scott Strauss and Giselle Johnson will oversee the project for Screen Gems.

Deadline offers some background on Room 428‘s directors:

The Pierce Brothers most recently directed the horror film The Wretched, which came in as a sleeper hit for IFC Midnight. Following the film’s release in theaters in 2020, it secured the number one spot at the box office in the U.S. for six consecutive weekends, becoming the first to hold that record since the release of Avatar in 2009. The Wretched became available to stream on Netflix on July 31st, and subsequently charted as one of the Top 10 Most Watched Films in the U.S. The Pierce Brothers made their feature directorial debut with the zombie cult film Deadheads, which launched on the festival circuit in 2011.

The Pierce brothers also happen to be the sons of Bart Pierce, who worked on the special effects of the original The Evil Dead. I enjoyed The Wretched and usually enjoy the movies Derrickson makes as well, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the movie they’re making together.
