Rumor: Vince Vaughn in talks to join True Detective season 2

Last month we reported that Colin Farrell was in talks to take a lead role in HBO’s highly anticipated second season of True Detective. Fantastic casting; Farrell is certainly an underrated talent who could bring it to the small screen for a revival of sorts for sure. Plot details indicated that there are only three lead roles: Farrell’s character who is suffering cocaine addiction and anger management issues; an alcoholic female sheriff addicted to gambling, and a young highway patrolman who was suspended for sexually exploiting a woman he pulled over. A wild bunch you might say.

Now rumored to fit right into that team is Vince Vaughn, who is “in preliminary talks to play one of the three leads,” although the story continues to reveal that Pizzolatto says there will be “four central roles”. The last we heard from True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto, he was saying how everything we have been hearing was untrue when it came to casting. So this should all be taken as rumor at this point; a rumor that might bring joy to some while anger to others. I like Vaughn when he’s not in a paint-by-numbers comedy (DELIVERY MAN, THE INTERNSHIP, COUPLES RETREAT) and instead, is playing a slightly darker version of the person I imagine he is (OLD SCHOOL, MADE, SWINGERS).

This would be a smart move for the actor who might be looking to turn to more drama soon enough; his next role is in TERM LIFE where he plays a guy wanted around town by various hit men who hopes to stay alive long enough for his life insurance policy to kick in and pay out for his estranged daughter.

What do you think of this potential casting?
