UPDATE: A source within Warner Bros. has reached out to us to confirm that Christopher Nolan remains an executive producer on the MAN OF STEEL sequel but offered no reason as to why he was left off the press release.
Read into it what you will, but Christopher Nolan‘s name does not appear on the press release for Ben Affleck‘s casting as Batman in the MAN OF STEEL sequel. While this could be an oversight from a trigger happy copy editor at Warner Bros, missing a name that huge on such a major announcement doesn’t seem likely. The obvious reaction from across the Internet is that Nolan left the film due to the selection of Affleck as the new Dark Knight.
Christopher Nolan‘s name was plastered all over MAN OF STEEL and Warner Bros has a very good relationship with the acclaimed director. To make a casting decision and risk that relationship seems unlikely. Nolan made it known that he would be taking a lesser role in the MAN OF STEEL sequel due to his work on INTERSTELLAR, but it was assumed he would still be a producer.
Metro UK cites a source close to Christopher Nolan and his wife are still executive producing the upcoming movie but offered no explanation for their names being left off the press release. This comes on the heels of major backlash against the Ben Affleck casting and rumors of Bryan Cranston being cast as Lex Luthor. Other rumors include major multi-film deals for Cranston and Affleck as well as the possible return of Mark Strong as Sinestro and maybe even Matt Damon as another hero.
All we know for certain is that Batman will battle Superman in the MAN OF STEEL sequel when it hits screens on July 17, 2015 with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, and Laurence Fishburne.
