Scarlett Johansson versus Blake Lively for space tragedy with Robert Downey Jr. in Gravity

JoBloJoBlo

Ever since Angelina Jolie climbed in an escape pod and launched herself away from Alfonso Cuaron’s sci-fi survival thriller GRAVITY, the project has been looking for a suitable leading lady to drift among the stars with Robert Downey Jr.

Heat Vision says that Downey’s future fellow Avenger Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively (apparently now A-list, somehow) tested for the part of a woman attempting to make her way back to Earth after a satellite crash sets off a chain reaction that leaves her stranded in orbit. RDJ will play handsome debris.

The 3D Warner Bros. project is a CG-heavy zero-G spectacle that will purportedly feature more of Cuaron’s stylish and fluid visuals and extended (and/or simulated) single-take shots. Marion Cotillard (INCEPTION) also previously tested for the lead role.

If Lively doesn’t get the part, at least she still has her own big-budget spaceman movie — she’s the squeeze of test pilot/intergalactic protector Hal Jordan in next year’s GREEN LANTERN (starring Scarlett’s hubby Ryan Reynolds).
