It has been six years since the last Scary Movie released, and twelve years since the first.  Seems someone has since decided that six years is long enough to not be making money, and so a new installment has found a director and a general start date.

SCARY MOVIE 5 will be directed by Malcolm D. Lee (SOUL MEN, UNDERCOVER BROTHER), co-written by Lee and David Zucker (director of SCARY MOVIE 3 and 4), and begin shooting this summer.

I remember finding the original SCARY MOVIE funny back when it released in 2000, despite having never seen any of the movies it was making fun of (I of course have now, but at the time my parents didn’t dig on the horror genre too much).  Of course as I’ve grown older the franchise has tried (and failed) to grow with me, almost always going for the quick jokes of pure parody rather than the clever and/or insightful satire it could be. Not that it’s ever really been that… but there’s a very small part of me that will probably always hope…

Eh, or not.  Series regular Anna Faris, anyone?
