We have some unfortunate news for all of you SILICON VALLEY fans out there. HBO has announced today that the show's upcoming sixth season will be its last. In addition to the comedy's cancellation, it's also been stated that the final season will be comprised of only seven episodes. To put things into perspective, traditional seasons of the laugh-out-loud cringe comedy have consisted of 8-10 hilarious epsidoes.
“Silicon Valley has been a career and life highlight for us,” said series executive producers/showrunners Mike Judge and Alec Berg. “We’ll miss it desperately, but we’ve always let Pied Piper’s journey guide the way, and Season 6 seems to be the fitting conclusion. We are forever indebted to our incredible cast, crew, and partners at HBO. At a certain point, there’s only so much we can do to make the world a better place.”
After comedic actor T.J. Miller unceremoniously left the Pied Piper group in the Summer of 2017, the show was left to stars Thomas Middleditch (GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP), Martin Starr (FREAKS AND GEEKS, PARTY DOWN), Kumail Nanjiani (THE BIG SICK, STUBER), and Zach Woods (THE OTHER GUYS, GHOSTBUSTERS). The show follows the misadventures of Richard Hendricks, a Silicon Valley engineer trying to build his own company called Pied Piper. Throughout the show's history, the tech start-up has had their share of ups and downs, which will all come to an end with the program's final Season 6 bow.
“In terms of last season, it’s a natural question; we have had conversations with them,” HBO president of programming Casey Bloys told Deadline in February. “Obviously when you get to the sixth season of a show, you have to talk about how much more is there in this, do you want to do more, so we have had those conversations. We are open to any version but, as we did with Veep, we put it to (the producers) and say, what do you think. They need to get in the room wit the writers and see what feels right.”
The last season of SILICON VALLEY is now in pre-production, with plans to release the show's last hoorah later this year.
