Snowpiercer is on a collision course to television

Joon-ho Bong's 2013 dystopian flick SNOWPIERCER has, rather appropriately, been optioned by Tomorrow Studios. They plan on developing the script into a TV series, to be written by Josh Friedman. Tomorrow's Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements will executive produce along with Bong and his co-producer Doohoo Choi. Original producer Chan-wook Park (OLDBOY, STOKER) is also attached.

Said Josh Friedman:

I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity. Marty and Becky are the perfect partners to help me bring this world to TV. I’m a huge fan of director Bong’s films, especially Snowpiercer. It’s great the way the best sci-fi is great — thoughtful, political, funny, scary and sly. And it’s on a train. A big f—ing train. What more could you want?

Friedman is perhaps best known for penning Spielberg's WAR OF THE WORLDS, but he has TV experience with Locke & Key as well as Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. He's also busy with the screenplays to AVATAR 2 and 3, which at this rate will come out shortly before the heat death of the universe.

I hope having the Korean contingent on the producing side will keep the series consistent with the high quality visuals and storyline of the original film. So far, no story details have been announced, but pretty much any tale can be told in SNOWPIERCER's innovative world. Personally, I have my fingers crossed for a wacky sitcom.
