Spend your Halloween tuned in to Henrique Couto’s Scarewaves

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I do my best to keep track of what's going on in the independent horror scene, and one filmmaker working in the low budget arena who has really caught my attention is Henrique Couto. With the filmography he's building for himself, he's showing impressive prolificacy and versatility, having made around nine movies in the last three years and regularly switching genres, working not just in horror but also making comedies, a family film, and he just wrapped a Western. He doesn't let his limited funds hold him back from trying new things, and taking chances has led him to some solid success.

One of Couto's upcoming films is SCAREWAVES, which Camp Motion Pictures will be releasing on VOD on October 13th, followed by a DVD release on October 27th.

Being released near Halloween sounds perfect for this one, which has the following synopsis:

In his final night as a radio host, shock jock Amos Satan spins four spine-tingling tales of terror in this anthology of urban legends inspired by Creepshow and Tales from the Crypt.

In 'Worth the Wait', an accomplice to murder and larceny struggles for her sanity.  In 'Office Case', a corrupt former cop is haunted by his past.  In 'Painting after Midnight', an artist goes to devilish lengths for fame.  And 'Fair Scare' proves there is no honor amongst thieves.

Scarewaves. Listen if you dare.

Each segment of the anthology was written by a different screenwriter, the contributors being Couto himself, Jeremy Biltz, John Oak Dalton, and Ira Gansler. The movie stars Erin R. Ryan, Haley Jay Madison, Iabou Windimere, JoAnna Lloyd, Joe Kidd, Joni Durian, and Geoff Burkman.

I'm really looking forward to checking out SCAREWAVES, and will be continuing to follow Couto's career with great interest.
