Super Marios Bros Movie final trailer sets off a grand adventure in the Mushroom Kingdom

Illumination and Nintendo release final trailer for The Super Mario Bros Movie which sets off a grand adventure in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Just as they promised last month, Illumination and Nintendo have released the final trailer for The Super Mario Bros Movie, and I continue to be surprised by just how fun the movie looks.

While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt) and brother Luigi (Charlie Day) are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world,” reads the official synopsis. “But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find Luigi. With the assistance of a Mushroom Kingdom resident Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) and some training from the strong-willed ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Mario taps into his own power.” The final Super Mario Bros Movie trailer leans heavily into multiple aspects of the long-running video game franchise, including Mario Kart. The last half showcases a thrilling race along the rainbow bridge, with Mario learning just how effective those green shells can be. Of course, it also just makes me want to go play Mario Kart.

In addition to Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, The Super Marios Bros Movie also features the voices of Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Not only that but there will be a special voice appearance by Charlies Martinet, who has voiced Mario and Luigi in the Super Mario video games for more than thirty years.

If the film is successful, it could easily lead to sequels, spinoffs, and adaptations of other Nintendo properties. Charlie Day has expressed an interest in starring in a Luigi’s Mansion movie, telling ComicBook.com last year, “Look, I’m thrilled to get the opportunity, I grew up playing Super Mario Brothers as did everyone I know so, we’ll see! It’s like anything else in life, I’ll go if I’m invited!’

What did you think of the final trailer for The Super Mario Bros Movie? Will you be watching when it hits theaters on April 5th?
