My girl Charlize continues her run of awesome projects!

Remember way back in like 2010 when Charlize Theron was attached to star in the American remake of Park Chan-wook’s SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE? Well friends, that shite’s been resurrected with both Theron and THE DEPARTED scribe William Monahan attached. Talk about an unnecessary remake actually worth seeing!

Theron’s Denver & Delilah Films, CJ Entertainment, and Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures are producing the long-brewing remake. Here’s what Monahan had to say about the deal:

“This will be very American — and very unexpected…Park is a genius; it’s the Everest of adaptations and I’ve got blood in my teeth to do it.”

Got to love the respect factor there. And again, with Monahan’s track record (remember, THE DEPARTED was a remake too), this could be f*ckin’ aces.

The setup: After thirteen and half years in prison for kidnapping and murdering the boy Park Won-mo, Geum-ja Lee is released and tries to fix her life. She finds a job in a bakery; she orders the manufacturing of a special weapon; she reunites with her daughter, who was adopted by an Australian family; and she plots revenge against the real killer of Won-mo, the English teacher Mr. Baek. With the support of former inmates from prison, Geum-ja seeks an unattained redemption with her vengeance.

Next comes the director. Who would you nominate?
