UPDATE: Looks like Toyfare is on the way out with Wizard Magazine according to Comic Book Resources. No word on whether or not Toyfare will receive a digital counterpart.
I remember the first time I picked up an issue of Wizard Magazine. It was 1994 and Spawn was on the cover. I was freaking out because currently I was obsessed with the world of Spawn and Todd McFarlane. It might have been a bit much for a ten-year old girl but I never thought anything of it.
Wizard was cool because beyond the Spawn article, they had stuff on movies, television, games, and comic book pricing! My back issues of X-Men were less than $2.00 but shit, that was $2.00!
So imagine my sadness when I read an article that says the Wizard Magazine empire would be halting publication. The rumor has been tearing through the internet stating that Wizard would be shutting down immediately and that most of the writers/editorial staff have already been let go. Good news for those of you who enjoyed sister publicationToyFare it will not be effected.
There is light at the end of the tunnel. Gareb Shamus, recently appointed President and CEO of public company Wizard World, Inc. says that in February there are plans to start a digital magazine called “Wizard World” that would cover much of the same things as Wizard mag did. They also plan to expand to more cities for the Wizard World Comic-Con Tour. New York City, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Austin and New Orleans will all be visited this year.
