Like many of you, I'm extremely curious to see what David Lowery has in store for us with The Green Knight, his upcoming fantasy adventure based on classic Arthurian legend that looks absolutely wild. The film was originally slated to hit theaters nearly a year ago, but obviously the pandemic had other plans and its release was pushed back, but the delay has only hyped up the film more in my eyes

Starring Dev Patel as Sir Gawain, King Arthur's nephew, The Green Knight follows the young knight as he set out to confront the titular Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger. Along the way, Gawain must deal with all manner of creatures. In addition to Dev Patel, the film also stars Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan, and Ralph Ineson. The Green Knight has been rated R for "violence, some sexuality, and graphic nudity." A24 has released a handful of character posters for the film, which you can check out below.

The official synopsis for The Green Knight:

An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur's reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table.

The Green Knight will be released on July 30, 2021.
