For some of us, The Green Knight is among the most heavily anticipated movies of the summer. Coming from the mind of David Lowery, director of A Ghost Story, Pete’s Dragon and more, this is an adaptation of the classic fable “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”, one of the classic Arthurian tales. It was previously adapted to film in a very schlocky Cannon movie Sword of the Valiant: The Legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, which cast a painted green Sean Connery as the titular knight. Suffice to say Lowery’s film probably has more in common with another classic Arthurian film, John Boorman’s Excalibur.
Our man Eric Walkuski recent had the opportunity to see the film and sit down with the two stars, Dev Patel, who plays Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s nephew, and co-star Joel Edgerton. The two discuss why movies like The Green Knight just aren’t made anymore while also digging into the challenges of making this epic.

An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur's reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table.
