Guillermo del Toro's latest film THE SHAPE OF WATER is gradually expanding to a nationwide release this month, and the director recently participated in a Reddit Ask Me Anything chat to help promote the movie. During the Q&A, a fan called JacksonRees asked del Toro, "Which of your films have you been most passionate about throughout the entire creative process, and which do you think came out most true to your artistic vision?"
The filmmaker responded with a top 6 of the 10 features he has directed:
I like 1) The Shape of Water, 2) The Devil's Backbone 3) Pan's Labyrinth, 4) Crimson Peak, 5) Hellboy II 6) Pacific Rim the most.
That list puts HELLBOY, BLADE II, MIMIC, and CRONOS in the bottom 4.
It's no surprise that a director would say his latest movie is his favorite of his work, but THE SHAPE OF WATER is up against some strong competition and still comes out on top.
This isn't the first time del Toro has said THE SHAPE OF WATER is his favorite – during an interview with Collider, he said
I’ll tell you, it doesn’t get more personal than Shape of Water for me. I am the proudest of it. It’s my favorite movie that I’ve done."

THE SHAPE OF WATER is currently playing in select theatres and will be expanding to more this weekend before receiving a nationwide release on December 22nd. I haven't had a chance to see it yet, but Arrow in the Head's own Eric Walkuski gave it a 9/10 review.
