The UnPopular Opinion: Edge of Tomorrow

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Welcome back to The UnPopular Opinion! The UnPopular Opinion features different takes on films that either I hated, but that the majority of film fans loved or vice versa. We have always hoped this column will promote constructive and geek fueled discussion. Now, with us entering the visual world, you can get pissed off in a whole new medium!

With Doug Liman and Tom Cruise actively working towards a sequel to EDGE OF TOMORROW, it seems appropriate to call out the movie for being what it was: a lackluster science fiction movie that was unable to overcome its high concept with a decent screenplay. Hell, the movie couldn't even figure out whether the title should be the tagline or vice versa. Few movies in recent memory have squandered Tom Cruise's starpower like EDGE OF TOMORROW did. Sit back and let me explain how and why this movie stinks.

Oh, and if you have any suggestions for The UnPopular Opinion I’m always happy to hear them. You can send along an email to [email protected] or spell it out in the comments below. Provide me with as many movie suggestions as you like, with any reasoning you'd care to share, and if I agree then you may one day see it featured in this very column!
