Genre regular Ben Wheatley is currently at the helm of Meg 2: The Trench, getting that giant shark movie ready for its August 2023 release… and while he does that, he’s also executive producing a British psychological thriller called The Unravelling. This will be the second feature for writer/director Gareth Tunley, who previously made the 2016 thriller The Ghoul (which Wheatley also received an executive producer credit on).
The Ghoul star Tom Meeten has also been cast in the lead role of The Unravelling. The film will follow his character, Michael, as he
experiences increasing hostility from the world around him – including his own once-loving family, colleagues and friends. Soon, inexplicably and terrifyingly, everyone in the world is trying to kill him.

Developed with the BFI, The Unravelling is being produced by Richard Holmes. Meeten is executive producing the film alongside Wheatley.
Tunley provided the following statement to Deadline:
The Unravelling is a domestic psychological drama that turns into a subversive reimagining of a chase movie. And as we’ve been developing this film with the BFI the story – and its world-gone-mad themes – have become more and more relevant.”
This project sounds interesting to me, and not just because Wheatley is putting his name on it. The idea of everyone in the world being out to kill one regular guy is intriguing and creepy, and I’m interested in seeing how Tunley is going to make “a subversive reimagining of a chase movie”.
