The Weinstein Company developing TV shows based on Sin City and The Mist

Last week in an interview with the New York Times, Bob and Harvey Weinstein talked about their company's future plans for television, and revealed that two series based on SIN CITY and THE MIST are in development.

He is preparing a pilot based on the “Scream” films for MTV, for instance, and developing a proposed 10-part series with Frank Darabont, based on Dimension’s film version of Stephen King’s “The Mist.”

Mr. Weinstein said he was also hoping to quickly follow the August release of the film “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,” directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez, with a “Sin City” television series from Mr. Miller and Mr. Rodriguez.

TWC has a ton of new scripted television programs in the works. Besides the previously mentioned SCREAM series, they also have plans for a detective drama set in ancient Egypt called "Book of the Dead," an anthology style series on the commandments handed down to Mosses with different directors for each episode called (you guessed it) "10 Commandments", "Marco Polo" (which will apparently have plenty of martial arts), a 14-episode retelling of Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace, and a series about the comedy team Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.

I could see SIN CITY working as a television show, but what are they going to do with THE MIST as a series? Would it just be a remake of the film as a show? Ten episodes or so of people trapped in a supermarket and then…well if you've seen the movie, you know what happens at the end, unless TWC decides to follow the ending of the book instead. Having Frank Darabont attached to the project makes me feel a little better, but right now I don't have high hopes for a series based on the dark film.
