Tom Hanks reunites with Paul Greengrass in first News of the World trailer

Tom Hanks is reuniting with his CAPTAIN PHILLIPS director Paul Greengrass on NEWS OF THE WORLD and we now have the first trailer for the old west epic adventure.

In the film, based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Paulette Jiles, Tom Hanks stars as a widower in the Old West who “travels through the Texas desert to perform a one-man show about true stories from afar. His goal, apart from gathering coins in his cup, is to bring people together and expand their perspective of the world.” The widower gets thrust into a dangerous journey after he discovers a young girl (Helena Zengel) who is the lone survivor of a carriage accident in the middle of nowhere.

Judging from Hanks' last collaboration with Greengrass, NEWS OF THE WORLD could prove to be very successful. CAPTAIN PHILLIPS became a six-time Oscar nominee and a box office hit with a gross of $218 million worldwide. Even though Tom Hanks didn't receive a Best Actor nomination, the film did compete for Best Picture.

Did YOU like the trailer for NEWS OF THE WORLD? Universal Pictures has dated the film for a theatrical release on Christmas day and hopefully, they can stick to that date given the current state of affairs with the 2020 box office. In addition to the trailer, you can check out a few first-look images from the film courtesy of "Vanity Fair" below!
