As Tom Holland prepares to swing back into theaters with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the actor is getting ready to polish his dancing shoes for a brand new role. Tom Holland confirmed that he will portray Fred Astaire in a new biopic from Sony Pictures. Per “Deadline“, the deals for the project are still being finalized.

While speaking to the AP, Holland said, “Oh I’m playing Fred Astaire. The script came in a week ago; I haven’t read it yet. They haven’t given it to me. I know Amy Pascal has the script. She Facetimed me earlier when I was in the bath and we had a lovely Facetime. But I will be playing Fred Astaire.”

Pascal has made it no secret that she wanted Tom Holland to play the role. The mega-producer first mentioned it during Holland’s November profile in GQ. This role will keep Holland in business with Sony as he’s attached to the upcoming release of Uncharted and he’s rumored to be featured in a new Spider-Man trilogy after No Way Home.

Fred Astaire’s career spanned 76 years before his passing from pneumonia in 1987. Astaire got his start in the business working with his siblings in vaudeville before setting his sights on Broadway and London’s West End. Astaire famously starred in 1933’s Dancing Lady with Joan Crawford, 1948’s Easter Parade with Judy Garland, and 1957’s Funny Face with Audrey Hepburn.

This could actually be a perfect role for Tom Holland since he made his debut on the West End stage in Billy Elliot The Music in 2008. He first portrayed the titular character’s friend, Michael Caffrey, before taking the lead role until 2010. Also, you can check out the below video from his time on Lip Sync Battle which proves that the man can dance.
