Total Recall remake gets its ass to Toronto; Avengers assemble in New Mexico

You’re about to get Paul Verhoeven’s and Philip K. Dick’s story TOTAL RECALL remade for you wholesale, and it will happen up in Toronto. According to The Star, the production will begin shooting in March at Ontario’s Pinewood studio, reportedly with a whopping budget of $200 million (unknown if that’s Canadian or US — both pretty close in value at the moment, yeah?).

Columbia has Len Wiseman (LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, UNDERWORLD) heading up the head trip, and last we heard, Colin Farrell was approached to star. The original movie featured Arnold Schwarzenegger as an average Joe/Quaid/Hauser whose implanted memory “vacation” uncorks his real personality as a secret agent. So he gets his ass to Mars and meets mutant prostitutes, an irritating cabbie, an oppressed society and a guy with a greasy puppet in his chest, and then he slaughters almost everyone in sight and/or saves the planet.

Meanwhile, as Mars goes north to Canada, Marvel’s AVENGERS will be assembling in a more arid climate. According to Yahoo, that massive production will move to Albuquerque, New Mexico from April to September.

Joss Whedon’s superhero extravaganza, which rounds up Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Nick Fury and Hawkeye to do battle with question mark, is set for release May 4, 2012.
