John Carpenter has been very open about the fact that is a gamer – and now he has put his name on the upcoming first-person shooter horror game John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, which is set to reach PC (through the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X sometime in 2024. This game is coming our way from Focus Home Entertainment and Saber Interactive, and it’s powered by Swarm Engine. While we wait to hear a specific release date for Toxic Commando, our friends at Bloody Disgusting have shared the news that the game is getting a prequel comic book series called John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando: Rise of the Sludge God!

A collaboration between Dark Horse Comics and Saber Interactive, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando: Rise of the Sludge God will have a three issue run. The story aims to present “the terror of a professional crew up against an unstoppable force in Alien combined with a healthy dose of the suspense-filled action of The Thing, peppered with zombified monsters and one gruesome god.” Here’s the synopsis: A normal day for Obsidian CEO Leon Dorsey becomes horrific when his search for clean energy accidentally awakens an ancient, sludgey evil. Humanity’s last hope against a toxic future rests with a private group of commandos.

The comic book series has been written by Michael Moreci (Stranger Things: Kamchatka). Alberto J. Albuquerque (Robert E. Howard’s Savage Sword) handles both the interior and cover art, and the lettering is being done by Nate Piekos (Black Hammer: Visions).

Tim Willits, COO of Saber Interactive, provided the following statement: “There are few things as exciting as building a new world and we’re delighted to be able to do that again with John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando. We’re thrilled to have had the opportunity to partner with Dark Horse to expand on this universe and give people a small taste of what’s to come.

The first issue of John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando: Rise of the Sludge God is set to reach store shelves on March 13, 2024. Will you be picking up a copy? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
