On the show Thursday night, Trevor Noah delivered a special message at the end of the show, telling his viewers, “We’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together…But after seven years, I feel like it’s time.”
No exact date has been given for Trevor Noah’s departure from Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. Expectedly, no successor has been named.
Trevor Noah expressed genuine gratitude to his audience and viewers at home calling his time hosting the show “genuinely wild” and “one of my greatest challenges.” As for his reasons for leaving the desk, Noah noted he wanted to get back into standup, in addition to traveling more. He concluded his speech with, “You’ve truly made this one of the best experiences of my life.”
While never matching the charisma or poise of Jon Stewart, Trevor Noah was still a guiding voice for many during numerous major events, most notably the rise of the Donald Trump presidency and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trevor Noah is the third host of The Daily Show, following Jon Stewart and Craig Kilborn (wow, remember him?!). Stewart’s tenure ran from 1999 to 2015, taking over the satirical news show from Kilborn, who had a short two-year go at the job.
Noah’s best-selling memoir Born a Crime, which is primarily about his time growing up in South Africa during apartheid, will be adapted into a feature film starring Lupita Nyong’o and directed by Liesl Tommy (the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect).
