The Boondock saints

Sometimes it seems like there's only two types of people in the world: those that really like THE BOONDOCK SAINTS and its sequel, and those that don't. But I fall a bit in the middle. The first one I thought was entertaining, but I didn't think it was nearly as amazing as many loyal fans made it out to be. As for the sequel…well I've seen it once and that's probably enough for me.

The director's cut of THE BOONDOCK SAINTS 2: ALL SAINTS DAY is out Tuesday, and We Got This Covered talked to Troy Duffy recently about the upcoming Blu-Ray release. So of course they had to ask the director where things stood on a third violent adventure with the McManus brothers:

I’m still working on the third film too. I’m trying to find my way through that plot. It could start to get a little bit comic book like when you think about it. You know, these two prolific vigilante characters in prison and then they get out and have the backing of the catholic church. It could get pretty extreme.

I’m working through it though. I’m about halfway done the script. So ya, that’s definitely on the front. We’re doing a third installment. One of the things that I’m hoping to provide fans with in the third film is a lot of answers to their questions about the brothers. The film is going to be more introspective. I don’t want to give too much away but right now I couldn’t be more pleased with how it’s turning out.

Duffy also says that Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery will return for the third film (kind of need them) and he's trying to lure Willem Dafoe back as well. Troy Duffy went on to say he still would like to do a television series about the brothers, something he mentioned as well back in 2011:

[The] TV show is still on the hopper here… I kind of envision a re-birth of ‘The Boondock Saints’ for a new generation. With television you can go so much more in depth and tell a lot more story. I’m excited about it.

If it's a "re-birth" does that mean it wouldn't have Reedus and Flanery? Fans really dig the actors in those roles so I'm not sure if they'd respond if they re-cast the parts for a television series. Or Duffy could just be saying with television he has a better opportunity to expand on those character's history, but would Reedus and Flanery commit to a whole series?

Before you get too excited, don't forget Troy Duffy has been talking about some sort of continuation of the series for a while now so even if a third movie, television series or video game happens, it won't be anytime soon.
