A new month brings a wealth of new Blu-ray and DVD releases, so now’s a great time to prepare and see what we have ahead of us in the month of December! You can always head to our BLU-RAY AND DVD RELEASE DATES section for a more complete list, but in this column we’ll go over some of the more popular titles hitting shelves over the next 4 weeks!

December 6

Matt Damon is back and it’s time to BRING. HIM. HOME! JASON BOURNE is here in case you need some finely-tuned, shakey-cam action! And if you’d rather uncover the mysteries of what your pets are DEFINITELY up to when you’re not home, THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS is also here. Not to be neglected is the long-awaited “Black and Chrome” edition of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. Will Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy kick more ass in black and white? Doubt it, but there are FAR worse movies to double-dip on!

December 13

For you DC fans, this week is all about SUICIDE SQUAD! There are plenty of options for you to choose your (slightly) extended edition of the film from, including the standard Blu-ray, the 3D iteration, and even a couple of Amazon exclusives that feature either a bust of Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn or Will Smith‘s Deadshot. I don’t know about you guys, but I’d rather have my hands on the bust of Harley Quinn! Here all night, folks! For those of you who aren’t feeling the Squad, we also have the second season of Fear the Walking Dead, as well as Timur Bekmambetov‘s BEN-HUR. Just in time for the holidays!

December 20

This is a decidedly weaker release week, but there are still a few stand-outs to take note of. First up is THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN remake from Antoine Fuqua featuring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke and a slew of other familiar faces. If you’re seeking something a bit darker than a PG-13 shoot ’em up, Rob Zombie has your back with the Blu-ray release of his latest film, 31. Otherwise, you can take your chances with some of the more obscure releases of the month with documentaries like HITCHCOCK/TRUFFAUT or DOOMED!

December 27

While most of the big movies will be out in theaters come Christmastime, there are still a few Blu-ray releases to take note of before taking your ass to a theater. First up is Oliver Stone‘s SNOWDEN featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the titular role. We also have a western that’s bound to slip under the radar featuring Ethan Hawke and John Travolta, entitled IN A VALLEY OF VIOLENCE. I hear there’s a really cute dog, but I digress. Also being released on this day is THE DRESSMAKER featuring Kate Winslet. I know next to nothing about the film, but Winslet has never disappointed with her presence. If that doesn’t do anything for you, then you might need to see a doctor, or wait until next month when we check out what’s new on Blu-ray and DVD!
