Will Poulter cast as Pennywise in Cary Fukunaga’s It

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Cary Fukunaga has found his Pennywise the Clown in the form of 22-year-old British actor Will Poulter. Best known for playing a virgin who gets a spider bite on his dick in the Jason Sudeikis comedy WE’RE THE MILLERS, Poulter has also appeared in THE MAZE RUNNER and THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE DAWN TREADER. He will next be seen opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s THE REVENANT.

Pennywise was previously played by Tim Curry in the ABC mini-series based on the Stephen King novel. Curry’s performance scarred a generation of children and Fukunaga is aiming to make his two-film version even scarier. The novel itself clocked in at over a thousand pages and ranks as one of Stephen King‘s scariest novels.

Fukunaga’s two part IT is set to go into production this June with one part set in the 1950s and the other contemporary. No other official casting announcements have been made, but with only a month until filming, I would expect more announcements soon. As you can tell from the image above, Poulter does carry with him a certain appearance that is sure to look pretty scary in clown make-up. But with Pennywise able to shapeshift, who knows how many disturbing appearances we will see.

IT will likely hit theaters in 2016.
