Year 2: Frank Grillo to star in Steven C. Miller werewolf movie

I watch every movie director Steven C. Miller makes and Frank Grillo is one of the coolest actors working today, so I’m hyped to hear that they’re now working on a project together. Even better is the fact that, although Miller and Grillo both work in the action genre frequently, the movie they’re teaming up for is a horror movie… and to be specific, it’s a werewolf movie! It’s called Year 2, and it’s already sounding like it’s going to be awesome.

Screen Daily reports that The Solution, an international sales and financing company, is presenting Year 2 to potential buyers at the European Film Market. Although the name of the screenwriter isn’t mentioned, we do know that the story they crafted is about

the return of a supermoon which, on its last appearance a year earlier, turned anybody touched by moonlight into a werewolf and led to nearly one billion deaths.

That’s a hell of a concept for a movie. I’m surprised they’re diving right into the second year of the event, but this does leave the door open for them to go back and make a prequel if Year 2 is successful.

Our friends over at Bloody Disgusting have heard that Year 2 is being described as “The Purge with werewolves”, which seems quite fitting since Grillo starred in The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year. He also had to deal with a pack of regular wolves in The Grey.

I have been following Miller’s career ever since he made his feature debut with the zombie movie Automaton Transfusion, which was shot on a very low budget with the same type of camera I owned at the time. Since then, he has directed Scream of the Banshee, The Aggression Scale, Under the Bed, Silent Night, Extraction (the one with Bruce Willis), Submerged, Marauders, Arsenal, First Kill, Escape Plan 2: Hades, and Line of Duty. He’s currently wrapping up post-production on the “smart house gone rogue” horror thriller Margaux.
