Army of Thieves: Zack Snyder & Matthias Schweighöfer Interview

The Army of the Dead universe expands with the release of Army of Thieves, a prequel set before the events of the zombie apocalypse that focuses on Matthias Schweighöfer’s Ludwig Dieter and details how he became a master safecracker. Director Zack Snyder provides a story credit here and serves as a producer while Schweighöfer is also on board as a director on the heist film which honestly proves to be one of the most fun films of the year so far.

I had a chance to interview back Zack Snyder and Matthias Schweighöfer about Army of Thieves and their excitement about the project was pretty infectious. Schweighöfer became a fan favorite after Army of the Dead and he speaks on his excitement on learning more about the character in this prequel and when Zack told him they were planning on spinning his character off into his own story. Also, even though I didn’t get to address this, Schweighöfer pulls double duty as actor and director on this project and he demonstrates some slick style with this directorial effort.

During my chat with Snyder, he let me know at what point Army of Thieves came together while making Army of the Dead and he let me know if there is a chance that we will see some of the characters from Army of Thieves again in this shared universe. It really does appear that they’re building on something pretty substantial here.
