Zatanna: Promising Young Woman director Emerald Fennell to write adaptation

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

So this is exciting! Variety reports that Promising Young Woman writer-director Emerald Fennell has been tapped by Warner Bros. to write the upcoming Zatanna feature film adaptation, based on the magic-based DC comics superhero!

Now, as someone who's both a huge fan of the comic character – as well as Fennell's film Promising Young Woman – I'm actually really excited about this announcement! Obviously, no guarantees that it ultimately comes to fruition, but this is all a great first step nonetheless!

Here's the characters official description:

Zatanna, created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson, is a magician and considered one of the most powerful sorcerers in the DC universe. Her magical abilities are genetic, as her dad Giovanni Zatara was also an alchemist.

Meanwhile, obviously no official start or release date, but we'll keep you posted!

So what do you guys think? Fans of Zatanna? If so, looking forward to her getting her own film? Either way, sound off below!
