Marvel Entertainment held its shareholder webcast this morning where they announced some pretty interesting information regarding their upcoming slate. Included is confirmation that IRON MAN 2 is on the fast track for an April 30, 2010 release (summer officially begins in April now!) and THE AVENGERS in July, 2011. Also on the release schedule are THOR (June 4, 2010) and THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA (May 6, 2011). While Zak Penn is writing THE AVENGERS and Matthew Vaughn is developing THOR, there is no talent attached yet to CAPTAIN AMERICA though you can expect that to change soon enough. The announcement comes just three days after IRON MAN opened and has already pulled in over $200 million worldwide to the 2nd highest non-sequel opening in history. Also came news of plenty of other properties including video games, direct-to-DVD and animated TV series. ANT MAN was also confirmed as being in development (with Edgar Wright attached to write and direct) but no release date was announced. You can read a full summary of the webcast at Yahoo! Finance. So what Avengers line-up can we expect to see in the series?

Haha! Very cool! I wish they would've allowed the franchises time to breathe a little but this is still so cool!! How would a character like THOR work in this "realistic, science-fact" universe though? And will they hustle on Cap for chrissakes??!! It's takin' them long enough!!

Hopefully theyll cut the "The First Avenger" out of the Cpt America title. They could even abbreviate Captain and put Cpt. or Capt.! Or even better: Cap'n!
Im a fan of DC comics more then Marvel, Id rather see a Juctice League film, but I dont see that happening with a new Batman franchise in full swing.

I think that the Avengers movie is going to keep it kind of simple. With the Hulk and Iron Man coming up this year. Whoever is playing Capt. will have to film both movies at the same time, which could work if the Capt movie kind of rolls into the Avengers movie. That would be kind of cool. With Downey playing Iron Man and appearing in Hulk, he is definitely in on The Avengers. Whether or not Norton returns will depends, I am guessing, on the success of Hulk. Jackson is already set to play Fury. Now the question is who is going to be Thor and Capt. America? Sound off on that one.

Has anyone thought of the possibility of including Wolverine in the Avengers line-up?
X-Mens franchise is dead, and this would save them the trouble of introducing too many new characters.

Ironman, Thor, Hulk, Capitan America and Wolverine? That could work

Does anyone think its wierd that The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers are coming out just months away from each other? But all other things aside, i think everything will come out nicely.

New Formula - Better Movies
I Agree that Ironman is one of best Comic movies and i have a good feeling TDk will even be KICKASS. Now if they apply the same out the box mindset that created the new Batman Movies and Ironman to the Avenger movie ANOTHER KICKASS MOVIE. PLUS NO MORE BACKSTORY BIDES FOR TRILOGIES.

Sure things look crammed on paper. But it's still 2 years away. Just like people looking forward to Iron Man and the Hulk this year, we'll have Iron Man 2 and Thor two years from now. Things will pan out nicely.

who wants to see a live action Care Bear movie.

it's much better idea than cramming Tobey Maguire

(SPIDY), Ed Norton (HULK) and Robert Downey JR

(IRONMAN) + whoever plays Cap America & Thor in an

Avenger movie. That will look like Marvel version of

Ocean 13.

"The First Avenger: Captain America"? What a gay title, as bad as "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".

Marvel needs to be careful not to over-saturate the market with these films. Will have to see how this plays out. Can we get a restart for Daredevil now too?

Not the best of plans if you ask me. I love these comic movies personally, but packing too many characters in one movie hasn't worked to well in the past. Lord of the Rings worked, but that was a slow moving trilogy. Avengers would probably be more turbo charged mayhem, and assume we got our fill of character development from the past films. Maybe it could work?

Ant-Man sounds weak. I don't want to see an Ant-Man movie from what I know of him.

A lot of potential

You know, there's quite a bit that can be done with this film as far as line-ups are concerned. They could very well have an Avengers flick with Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, Thor and Captain America due to the fact that Wolverine and Spider-Man were both part of the New Avengers.

On top of that, there's also the possibility of Beast even making an appearance because of his affiliation with the Avengers squad at one point. So, yeah, there are quite a few line-ups that are possible. Personally, I'd prefer it if they stuck to characters that have all ready had a film under their belts to save some time as far as exposition goes.

With that said, the line-up I'd most want to see would have to be:

Iron Man, Cap, Hulk, Thor and toss in either Hawkeye, Wasp or even Ant Man if you want to have Ultron as a villain.

However, the biggest issue comes down to the casting of these characters. Marvel needs to be smart about casting (I'm sure they will), and not rush into anything like DC did when casting the JLA film. Of course, finding the right director to helm the project is another hot issue.

It has the potential to be something pretty amazing, or (as we've seen with the JLA news) something that sounds downright awful.

Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Wasp and Ant-Man. I'd like to see Black Widow, Hawkeye and Vision on screen but thats a helluva lot of characters to cram in. No need to ruin the movie just to get 50 characters on screen and waste em' like X3.

2011 seems ....
... a bit early. 2 Iron Man movies, 1 Thor, 1 Hulk, 1 Captain America. There should be more before Avengers movie, but nevertheless we shall see. The perfect lineup for Avengers: Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Wolverine, Spider-Man :)

It is about time!
DarthDario, Tony Stark is rumoured to appear in the Hulk, if that's what you were wondering. And my theater got the Hulk trailer and not the Dark Knight trailer.
Favreau is definitely the man to do Iron Man justice.
War Machine and Mandarin in part 2?

Sweet news for the "Avengers" movie, but that's not really the title of the Captain America film, is it? I mean, with the whole "X-Men Origins" thing, it's certainly a possibility, but ... yeech!

BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!
Captain America comes out the day before my birthday! [link] And yea, they probably have to start the movies season off in April due to Narnia taking the May 7th (my actual b-day) weekend slot. Pooh to them.

I wonder who will be getting the director's chair for Avengers & Cap?

It'll probably be the original group (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant Man and Wasp), but as an Avengers fan for nearly 20 years, the best group dynamic would be: Captain America, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Wonder Man. (But that may be too unknowns for a studio to touch).

An easy three story arc involving Ultron as the main baddie.
