So we know who will be playing Marshall, Will and Holly in Universal's big LAND OF THE LOST adaptation (that would be Will Ferrell, Danny McBride and Anna Friel) but who will be playing their simian-like cavemen guide Cha-ka? JoBlo.com can exclusively report that HOT ROD and "Saturday Night Live" star Jorma Taccone has signed on to star as Cha-ka in the film. The movie would reunite Taccone with HOT ROD co-star Danny McBride (while Ferrell is producing McBride's upcoming comedy THE FOOT FIST WAY). Brad Silberling (LEMONY SNICKET) will direct the film, taking over for Adam McKay who had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict with STEP BROTHERS. As you might suspect, the film will follow the basic premise of the series with Ferrell starring as has-been scientist Rick Marshall who was sucked into a space vortex into an odd world with only his assistant Holly and a redneck survivalist (McBride) to assist him. Oh and then there's Cha-ka, one of the Pakuni beings who helps them fight off the Sleestak and find their way back home. Taccone is currently wrapping up this season of "Saturday Night Live" and will then report to Los Angeles to film his scenes likely under tons of prosthetics. LAND OF THE LOST just began filming in Los Angeles.
Extra Tidbit:
Jorma dances backstage in his boxer shorts during the "SNL" musical segments. Really.

Sure, it was a cheap, kids' series...but it was also a surprisingly intelligent, cheap, kids' series (like how the Sleestak, for example, devolved from a technologically advanced race into a bunch of primitive, superstitious nitwits) that was written by the likes of Larry Niven, Theodore Sturgeon and Ben Bova.
If Hollywood can respect a cartoon that was basically just a glorified commercial for a pre-existing line of toys ("Transformers") then why can't they also respect "Land of the Lost"?
