Another familiar face from Prometheus may be returning in Alien: Covenant

WARNING: This article contains potential spoilers for ALIEN: COVENANT.

We know a bit about Ridley Scott's upcoming PROMETHEUS sequel ALIEN: COVENANT, including the fact that both Michael Fassbender's character David and Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw will be returning. However, they might not be the only familiar faces that we'll be revisiting.

According to AvP Galaxy, Guy Pearce will be returning in the film's opening scene, reprising his role as a younger Peter Weyland in a scene that, in the current edit, plays as follows:

David 8 is brought online in a large white room with a grand view overlooking an ocean.

A younger, but still somewhat aged, Weyland asks David various questions to test him. We eventually move to David performing Richard Wagner’s Entrance of the Gods into Valhalla, explaining the meaning of the piece as he plays.

David explains that it is about God’s abandoning their creations due their displeasure with their creation’s greed and vanity, only to realise that the Gods themselves sharing the same flaws. This leads to David and Peter discussing Gods and creations and human mortality which strikes a chord with Weyland (a tip of the hat to his motivation in Prometheus).

If this is true, that means that ALIEN: COVENANT will be interacting much more directly with the storylines and themes of PROMETHEUS than the title would imply. Obviously, this isn't 100% confirmed, but it's an intriguing look into a widely anticipated film.

Directed by Ridley Scott from a screenplay by Michael Green, Jack Paglen, and John Logan, ALIEN: COVENANT has the following synopsis:

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

The film also stars Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Benjamin Rigby, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez, and Billy Crudup.

COVENANT is scheduled to be hit theaters on August 4, 2017.
