Dexter spinoff is possible at Showtime, but not without Michael C. Hall

To be upfront, I did not watch “Dexter”. Just never got into it. And from what I’ve heard about the way the series ended, I’m kind of glad about that fact. Nothing worse than sticking with a show for years only to have it shit the bed during its final hour.

For those of you who did stick with it and felt sincere disappointment when it was all over, perhaps the show has some redemption in store. Showtime chief David Nevins recently opened the door, ever so slightly, for a spinoff series of some kind.

Speaking at the TCA press tour, Nevins had this to pass along:

“It’s something we continue to talk about. If we were to do it, we would have to have a very good reason to do it. It would have to feel like it’s a new show. I’m not interested in doing it if it’s just a continuation… There have been some light, ongoing conversations. It hasn’t really gone anywhere yet.”

He then remarked that it would only make sense to do if Dexter himself were involved.

“It would have to involve Michael [C. Hall]… I think if we were to do it, I would only do it if it was with Michael.”

Nevins claims it would be a spinoff and not just a continuation, but if Dexter himself were in it, how would that be any different than just another season of the show? Clearly it’s still very early yet, so we shouldn’t expect any clarification for a while.

But, let it be known: Dexter may be rolling out the plastic tarp once again in the near future.
