Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly headed to Corpus Christi for his next film!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

After showing tremendous promise with his thought provoking mind-fuck of a debut in DONNIE DARKO, writer/director Richard Kelly has stumbled a bit. SOUTHLAND TALES was a jumbled mess, and THE BOX was far too serious for its own good. Hopefully the dude gets his directions right when heading to CORPUS CHRISTI!

Variety has it that Kelly will write and direct CORPUS CHRISTI as his next feature. The film will be a thriller that follows a more traditional narrative structure than the fractured back-and-forth jumps Kelly’s been enamored with in the past. Kelly will produce under his Darko Entertainment shingle, with producorial teamwork from onetime filmmaker Eli Roth.

According to the trade:

The Texas-set story concerns a mentally unstable Iraq war veteran named Paciencia “Patience” De La Rosa, who forges a strange friendship with his boss Ralph Salverson, the wealthy and politically ambitious owner of a supermarket chain.

Sounds intriguing if nothing else. Word is casting is being conducted as we speak, with an announcement to be made before April. Plenty of time then to play a game of cast this. Who do you think would be a good fit for a mentally unstable Iraq war vet? What about Paciencia? Let’s hear some suggestions.

Or, if you want to…speculate on Eli Roth’s future. Is he destined to produce from here on out or will the dude eventually get behind the camera and make another film?

Who needs a BOX with an ass like Cameron Diaz?
