POLTERGEIST: 25th ANNIVERSARY EDITION
-October 9th

When I was 4, POLTERGEIST was my favorite movie. I’d sit at home watching it over and over and over again. Sesame Street? F*ck that! Give me Carol Anne any day of the week over that shit. So while this release has dick for features, I’m stoked they’ve finally re-released this badboy so I can add it to my collection.

The Goods:

  • 2.40:1 Widescreen
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio
  • The 2-part documentary “They Are Here: The Real World of Poltergeists Revealed”
o Part I: “Science of the Spirits”
o Part II: “Communing with the Dead”

    BASKET CASE 2 – October 30th

The first BASKET CASE really f*cked me up good when I first picked it up in a used DVD bin a few years back. All that damn screaming… and the bizarre rape scene with the little bro in the basket… oh man, what a crazy ride! So with BASKET CASE 2, I’m sure I can expect more of the same- both in terms of crazy bizarre and fun- just look at that motley crew of freaks in the background. Good times will be had indeed.

    The Goods:

  • 1.78 anamorphic high-definition
  • “Beyond The Wicker,” a brand-new making-of featurette
  • “The Man In The Moon Mask” new interview with actor David Emge.

    CAPTIVITY
    – October 30th

Maybe the unrated version will be better than the crap that was released in theaters. I doubt it, but you never know. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again- Elisha Cuthbert being naked would have made this the must see movie of the year. Will it happen for the UnRated DVD? Not bloody likely, but a guy can still dream, can’t he?

    The Goods:

  • Anamorphic Transfer
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 Track
  • Deleted scenes
  • Making-of featurette
  • “On-the-Set” featurette
  • Trailer gallery

    DAY WATCH
    -October 30th

The killer sequel to NIGHT WATCH is finally making it to DVD. Let’s hope for the same, slick subtitle treatment, as that was one of the cooler features the NIGHT DVD had. Maybe one of the only times I actually enjoyed reading subtitles the whole way through. I didn’t catch this beast in theaters, but I did spy the killer car chase scene on the side of a building- and that shit was dope. I’d buy this movie based on that 2 minute clip alone.

    The Goods:

  • Anamorphic widescreen transfer
  • Russian and English dub Dolby Digital 5.1
  • Optional English subtitles
  • Commentary with director Timur Bekmambetov
  • “The Making of Day Watch” Featurette
  • Original Russian Trailers
  • More

    PROM NIGHT
    -October 2nd

I’m not really sure what the f*cking point of this release is, but here you have it. A reissue of the classic Jamie Lee Curtis slasher flick, utilizing the same cover art that’s been around since its VHS release, and sporting a gaggle of features that equals out to nada. What’s the big idea here? Why not wait to release a disc worth buying around the time the remake hits theaters in February??? It’s only redeemable value is the DVD is selling for $6.99. That’s right, $6.99. So I guess they’re going with the motto of ‘you get what you pay for’. Lame, but at least they’re not trying to squeeze $15 out for this crap.

    The Goods:

  • Widescreen
  • TBA
