Fox set to re-release Independence Day next Summer - in 3D!

06.01.2012by: Jared Pacheco

So personally I don't see much sense in this next announcement other than Fox just trying to make a few bucks. But hey, it's happening so what can you do?

What am I getting at? Well according to Variety Fox are planning on dropping Roland Emmerich's INDEPENDENCE DAY back into theaters next Summer... only this time it will be in 3D! I kid you not people.

So when exactly will you get to see Will Smith and Eric Walkus... I mean Bill Pullman in three dimensions? July 3, 2013. Just in time for the Fourth of July!

The aliens are coming and their goal is to invade and destroy. Fighting superior technology, Man's best weapon is the will to survive.

Along with Smith and Pullman, the some-what classic sci-fi romp also stars Jeff Goldblum, Mary McDonnell, Judd Hirsch, Randy Quaid and Vivica A. Fox (below). Mark it on your calenders folks - INDEPENDENCE DAY in 3D on July 3, 2013!

Extra Tidbit: Are there any flicks out there you would actually like to see re-released in 3D?

I don't mind 3D, though I do wait for reviews and word of mouth normally before forking out the extra cash. IMAX 3D is always best and I'm gutted my local IMAX ain't showing Prometheus.
As for money spent on re-releases I don't think it's a waste, I think they're more concerned making easy money that could potentially find new projects. There's clearly a market for it and it ain't going anywhere anytime soon. Plus there's always the option to view in 2D if you wish.
Re spilled blood : have

Re spilled blood : have to agree T2 is a damn good shout! Maybe even Jurassic Park also.

I'd like to see how much money goes into making these 3D re-release post-conversions just so I can get mad about how that money could easily finance original films.

Fuck 3D

Spilled Blood: Though I'm no 3D enthusiast, but to see T2: Judgment Day in 3D would be awesome. So many scenes that have potential to look cool in 3D, i.e. T-1000 chasing T-800, John & Sarah Connor inside the sheriff patrol when they try to escape Pescadero Mental Hospital.
