Casting has begun for Blumhouse and Universal's sequel to this summer’s micro-budget horror-thriller THE PURGE as it will see THE GREY's Frank Grillo (above) take the leading role. Grillo will lead the cast of the film under returning THE PURGE helmer James DeMonaco who is also writing and producing.
We still have no idea what the sequel is going to be about, but hopefully they'll choose to explore the dystopian world that the first film established as opposed to going the home invasion route once again. I wasn't really that into the first film so unless they do something entirely different I can't see myself getting too excited for this one. That being said, Grillo is a solid choice and it's nice to see him grab a leading role in a high-profile horror flick like this one. THE PURGE starred Ethan Hawke as a security system designer protecting his family from home invasion on the one night each year when the cops take a day off to let crime run rampant.
Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum, Sébastien K. Lemercier and Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form will produce THE PURGE 2, which marks the latest Blumhouse project in Blum’s first-look deal with Uni.
