Freestyle Haunts

The Hollywood Reporter dropped word today on an under the radar suspense thriller called THE HAUNTING OF MOLLY HARTLEY.

While THR offers hardly any info on the flick, I did some digging and scored a bunch of info for all of you. And by digging I mean visiting the trusty combination of IMDB and Wikipedia.

The full synopsis for THE HAUNTING OF MOLLY HARTLEY reads: Molly is a 17 year old girl who has physically recovered from a stab wound inflicted by her mother, but the psychological scars that remain run deep. To help her begin a new life after her trauma, her father has moved her into a new school. With her eighteenth birthday approaching, Molly is haunted by nightmares of her mother’s attack upon her while dealing with the stress of being the new girl in school. Symptoms of psychosis that seem to be affecting her seem to foreshadow an onset of the mental illness that took control of her mother’s life, but of several different explanations for her distress, the most unforeseen and terrifying is revealed as the truth. Ultimately, Molly discovers that her mother and others who share her mother’s concerns want her killed in order to save her from a preordained life as a servant of the Devil.

It’s directed by Mickey Liddell with a script from John Travis and Rebecca Sonnenshine. This is a first for both Liddell and Travis, while Sonnenshine has a few credits to her name, one being AMERICAN ZOMBIE. HAUNTING stars Chace Crawford (above), Haley Bennett, AnnaLynne McCord (below), Marin Hinkle, Jake Weber, Josh Stewart, Nina Siemaszko, and Shannon Marie Woodward.

The update coming in from THR has Freestyle Releasing picking up US distribution rights for HAUNTING. They’re actually aiming for a theatrical release this Halloween on around 2000 screens. Maybe they feel they’ve got something here? And who knows… maybe they do?
