Gary Ross' The Hunger Games teaser poster is on fire

07.21.2011by: Alex DiVincenzo

The official teaser poster for THE HUNGER GAMES is here and can be seen below. It's essentially a still version of the motion poster we showed you a couple of days ago. This one, however, can be hung on a wall - which is good, because mini versions of the poster will be given away at select theaters acoss the country.

The film is written and directed Gary Ross (SEABISCUIT), as based on the novel by Suzanne Collins. The large cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks (below), Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Wes Bentley and Donald Sutherland. It will hit theaters on March 23, 2012 via Lionsgate.

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

I'm just wondering why the emblem needs to be on fire. Is it a hint to the story or characters?

In the book, the main character's... *flamboyant* costume during the pre-game ceremony causes her to become known as "the girl who was on fire", a nickname that sticks with her throughout the games.

Oh, and I'll be in line March 23.
