Howard to Change?

Variety reports that J. Michael Straczynski’s thriller THE CHANGELING has joined the short list of projects that Ron Howard may tackle next. Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment bought the project and will no doubt be as pleased as an alcoholic on a BEERFEST set visit to have Ronnie take the reins.

The gambit behind this bastard has been whispered before but bears repeating: [B]illed as based on actual events, [the film] is about a mother who prays for the return of her kidnapped son. When her prayers are answered, however, she begins to suspect the boy who comes back is not her child.

Nice! It’ll certainly be interesting to see Howard tackle a straight ahead thriller. The man who used to be Opie showed with APOLLO 13 that he knows how to work tension and atmosphere like a master, so there’s no reason to expect this project will be anything less than outstanding if he decides to run with it.
