IFC nearing rights for Sundance hit Simon Killer, starring Brady Corbet

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Though at first blush Antonio Campos’ Sundance hit SIMON KILLER may not appear AITH appropriate, when you consider it was made by the production team behind MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE (last year’s Sundance hit), not to mention the good word of mouth tweeted by our man Chris Bumbray…I’m willing to bet there are more than a few of you interested in this distribution news…

According to Variety, that bastion of genre material, IFC Films, is on the brink of acquiring SIMON KILLER. While a deal has yet to be struck, it’s worth noting IFC also distributed Campos’ first film, AFTERSCHOOL. Seems just a matter of time then before this goes official…

Written by Campos as well – SIMON KILLER stars Brady Corbet (“Funny Games”) as Simon, a recent college graduate who goes to Paris after breaking up with his girlfriend. While there, he falls in love with a mysterious young prostitute, though it is Simon who has deeper secrets.

Again, while this might not register as typical horror, Campos and Sean Durkin (MARHA) know how to plumb the depths of human depravity. My guess is SIMON KILLER will be as disconcerting as most out-and-out horror threads. Maybe even more so.

A date to come soon enough. Stay close.
