It’s the Booze Talkin’: Stop Cock Teasing Us with Evil Dead 4 and Do It Already!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I remember it like it was yesterday: sitting in Hall H in the middle of the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con, watching eagerly as Universal presented their line-up of upcoming awesomeness. Director Sam Raimi was telling us all about DRAG ME TO HELL and showed us a few clips that made most of us cheer and jump up and down in our seats. When the Q&A part of the program started, a fan stepped up and asked about EVIL DEAD 4: is it gonna happen? And his answer? He and his brother Ted (Raimi) were working on the script right now. This is 2008… now here we are close to 5 years later, and still no EVIL DEAD 4… but what we do have is Raimi still throwing out the line that an EVIL DEAD 4 is still in the works. What gives???

While out promoting OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, a faithful fan / reporter asked Raimi about the status of the much promised EVIL DEAD 4, and Raimi’s response was that he and his brother Ivan (Raimi) were working on a script right now! Yay! Then a few days later, after the internet nearly exploded with excitement, rumors, and a new breathe of hope for a fourth entry, he shot it down, saying that he actually isn’t working on an EVIL DEAD 4 and that he felt pressured (by the fans) to say that he was. He’s not ruling out another entry to the series, but his heart isn’t in it at the moment so don’t hold your breath. Of course. Because, at this point, why would any of us believe anything Raimi says when it comes to another EVIL DEAD movie? Too many promises fallen to the wayside in a steaming bucket of blood.

And then there’s Bruce Campbell. The Chin has also been on record saying an EVIL DEAD 4 is in the works… then saying that it wasn’t… then saying that it was… then saying that maybe, someday, when they’re old and don’t give a f*ck anymore, they might make another one. Again, more empty promises to the fan base that made him the star he is today. So what’s the deal? Are these guys gonna give us an EVIL DEAD 4 or not? And at this point, does anyone really care? While I’m a fan of the original trilogy, The Chin isn’t the spry action hero that he once was… could they pull it off as something awesome, or would it be just one long running joke where they’re the punch line from beginning to end?

Maybe everything boils down to the upcoming EVIL DEAD remake, which Raimi and Campbell are both serving as producers on. Are they just hyping the new movie, which hits theaters next month, the whole time? Have they been talking about the remake the whole time, not really meaning an EVIL DEAD 4… just that another EVIL DEAD movie is in the works? For the line Raimi told us in 2008, that may have been the case. But last week? He was clearly talking about EVIL DEAD 4. And my guess is, it all rests on the success of the remake. If it bombs, fans everywhere can leave their expectations at the door as there will never (ever) be another EVIL DEAD movie again (let’s not forgot, ARMY OF DARKNESS was a box office failure).

And if it’s a huge success (and from the trailers, it’s hard to believe that it won’t be)? Then Raimi will have to make a larger (tougher) decision as to where to take the franchise as a whole: make a sequel to the remake or come out with an EVIL DEAD 4. If the new cast and new movie is what the new audience goes after, I can’t see them going back to the Chin storyline all over again—they’re gonna stick with the new movie as a start of a new franchise. Which means all this talk about an EVIL DEAD 4 is f*cking bullshit—and Raimi and Campbell know it. So why do they keep teasing us???

Maybe it’s the booze talking, but all this EVIL DEAD 4 cock teasing has to stop! Either make the f*cking movie and give the fans what they want, regardless of the fact that an EVIL DEAD remake exists, or shut the f*ck up and stop making promising you don’t plan on keeping! I’d rather these guys flat-out say NO to every question they get about EVIL DEAD 4, so that when the time comes and they finally do get around to making it, it’ll that much more of a surprise. But all this the promising and the teasing and the saying you’re working on it and then signing up to make a WIZARD OF OZ prequel has to stop`. Be straight-up with us (you’re loyal fans of 30 + years), we can handle the truth.
