Johnny Whitworth to play Blackout in Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance!

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

It was only yesterday that we heard co-director Brian Taylor speak about how he and his buddy Mark Neveldine are changing the origin story of Johnny Blaze in GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE. Well, it looks like the boys might have to address the origin of a new character altogether!

Talking with AMC Theaters, star Johnny Whitworth (LIMITLESS) revealed he’ll be portraying Marvel character Blackout in SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE. Here are the man’s exact words:

“I play the villain who, at the beginning, up until like page 70, is human,” explains Whitworth, “I’m not a very nice guy. I’m bad. I get turned into, for those who read ‘Ghost Rider’, the character Blackout. I get turned into him by the devil to complete my job. That gives me the fortitude to fight Ghost Rider and the supernatural abilities to compete on some level with that guy.”

Pretty cool sauce there, no? Admittedly, I’m not too familiar with the comic or the character, but anyone who gets morphed from human to superhuman by the devil is A-okay in my book. What says you?

Hitting 2D and 3D screens February 17th, 2012 – It has been several years since making a deal with the Devil and Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage), living in self-imposed isolation, finds himself as the only person who can help save 10-year-old Danny – and ultimately the world – thanks to his unwanted and uncontrollable power – his ability to transform into the hell-on-wheels monster known as The Ghost Rider.
