Let's help Mark Pellington and Warner Bros. make up their minds. Do you honestly wanna see an English language ORPHANAGE remake?
Well Pellington - director of such works as ARLINGTON ROAD, I MELT WITH YOU and HENRY POOLE IS HERE - is growing tired of the impasse at Warner Bros. to get THE ORPHANAGE remake off the ground. All this despite the claims that the script from Larry Fessenden and Guillermo del Toro surpasses the original Spanish screenplay.
"I think the script's better than original," he told MTV. "I think the original is really good, but I didn't have a big jones to do a remake of something. I love this script. I love this story. So that's all I can interpret."
Wow. Bold talk. Wonder if it's just bluster or fact. Either way, the script quality isn't making Warner Bros. too excited, as they're still keeping the project on the back burner.
"I don't know. That's been a year in discussion," Pellington continued. "I'm ready to go whenever they can find an actress and pull the trigger….I've been attached for a year, and it's actually because it's been delaying, delaying, delaying that I decided to do this. I was like, 'How long are you going to wait?'"
How long indeed. If it were my call, I'd say dump it...leave the original to breathe on its own. You agree or disagree? If you disagree, who should Pellington and the studio get to play the female lead?
