MPCA to bring Pumpkinhead back to life as a reboot

04.03.2014by: Ryan Miller

One horror film that stands out from my childhood is PUMPKINHEAD, which was the directorial debut of special effects artist Stan Winston. The PUMPKINHEAD monster terrified the living dayshits out of me as a kid, and even though the film hasn't aged all that well over the years, it's still pretty fantastic and one of the creepier horror films to come out of the 80's. Unfortunately, what followed was a handful of terrible sequels that never came close to living up to their original counterpart. Now, word is coming in that Brad Krevoy is aiming to reboot the series.

The original PUMPKINHEAD was produced by the De Laurentiis Entertainment Group headed up by Italian producer Dino De Laurentiis. De Laurentiis went on to produce HANNIBAL and RED DRAGON. For the rest of the franchise, the Motion Picture Corporation of America (MPCA) headed up by Brad Krevoy took the reins and is now back to produce the rebooted series, explains The Tracking Board.

Time will tell if Krevoy will get this one off the ground, but for now I think it's safe to say that he can't do much worse than the god awful sequels that were PUMPKINHEAD II: BLOOD AND WINGS, PUMPKINHEAD: ASHES TO ASHES and of course PUMPKINHEAD: BLOOD FEUD.

Extra Tidbit: Would you watch a reboot of the PUMPKINHEAD series?

I guess at some point in time, we were bound to see remakes of bad movies too.

I love the original so I guess I'm down for this... But its to bad to hear De Laurentiis is not the one on board for the remake. Lets hope it doesn't suck! Who knows, I was pleasantly surprised by the recent Chucky movie, maybe this one might surprise us as well.

Wow

So the guy who made all the trashy sequels is the one rebooting it? This will likely be awful, what a shame...

why bother calling it a reboot? the first 'pumpkinhead' was hardly an origin story. each sequel was a reboot then is what your telling me? anyway... bring it on! They better not mess it up with too much bad cgi though. there's just something really creepy about pumpkinhead and the fact that you can touch it.
